Sachin & Us!

Sachin & Us

Us......

and the Sachin.....

Recall those instances when you failed an exam! How many people show you their bad faces… your classmates, friends, and relatives?

Recall when you failed to get the IITs or IIMs and dirt of curse shame it brought for you.

Imagine those moments when you failed to get a visa stamped this quarter…, you missed a promotion almost due and certain…

How did it feel when your dad used to say in your early twenties that you are good for nothing…..and now your boss tells you the same...?

You doubt at yourself based on the others assumption about you. View’s of the people, who doesn’t matter a dime in your life, makes you feel low. Their criticism moderates your opinion about yourself! Those who back bite you or make fun of you are the reason you feel happy or sad. Because of others… you say ‘I am feeling low today’. Worst is, this happens to you almost daily!!!

Now here’s a man stands on the third man boundary of the cricket ground (usually). When he bats he focuses only on the ball coming out of the bowler’s hand and nothing else… no planning, no regret and no future concern. Many a times India loses the match even when he has done everything right. Whenever his wicket falls, he keeps his head down and leaves the field. He has seen such failures for 22 years now. Not only he!! But his classmates, relatives, friends and the whole world have seen these failures since he began batting. We are too immature to even imagine what goes inside his mind and heart while walking towards the pavilion. We would have fainted off!

Many people, while watching him batting from any TV set at any street shop, tries to explain the mistake he did in the last ball. They explain what could have been done by him on that particular ball as if they could have been super-Sachin if only they could have got the opportunity. I laugh at their utter nonsense but actually sometimes even I do so.

True, he has the ability. He single handedly lifts up the mood of the entire nation. He has been an inspiration to rise above our mediocrity. His dedication and metal strength is unparallel.

On other side, we are the people, who are mediocre in our own lives, who just scoff at others to create cheap fun. Who have lived in a small pot for decades and believe that we have seen the oceans.

Think about the man ‘Sachin’. He is 37, has been playing almost nonstop for 22 years. The way he was running and diving around the field at this age can puts 22 year olds young boy on shame. The way he played the best openings of the world… were all breathtaking. He just keeps getting better every time he walks in to the ground. It’s not for nothing that people call him GOD.

We, on the other hand, struggle to keep our monotonous lives straight. A life that affects hardly any big number of people… Imagine! what would be the magnitude of the inner struggle of Sachin, the pain both mental and physical, tears that would have frozen with time, knees and ankles and every other joint in the body that is either bandaged or needs to be attended to every night, eyes that don’t sleep before a big game, bats that have scored 99 international tons and still see expectations from a lot more than a billion people of the world.

And he just converts those expectations into reality.

In a country where cricket is not just a game and Sachin is not just a sportsman. I wonder a lot of his admirers do not want to learn from him even a little…. i.e. in order to make a Tajmahal, one just have visualize the Taj and plan for the bricks and stones it will take to be built. Rest everything will start following their dreams...
